Personal Injury Protection |
Mandatory:
This coverage provides coverage for the Named Insured and all individuals in the vehicle at the time of the accident. This coverage is provided in two parts, Medical and Workloss. Note on “Primary” or “Excess”: Excess (also referred to as Coordinated or Secondary): Can only be selected if the customer indicates that they have health insurance or work loss coverage. Selecting “Excess” is less expensive than auto insurance listed a “Primary.” Always select “Primary” for customers covered by Medicare or Medicaid. If the customer selects “Excess,” they may be required to submit proof of the underlying Medical or Disability Insurance coverage to the auto carrier. Medical: This coverage is “Unlimited” meaning there is no dollar amount set at which this portion of the coverage “caps” out. This pays for all reasonably necessary products, services, or accommodations necessary for an injured person’s care, recovery, or rehabilitation. Provided on either a Primary or Coordinated basis. Primary- Auto Insurance policy pays for injuries before any existing Health Insurance Coverage. For customers with Medicare or Medicaid as their health insurer, this is mandatory. Coordinated- Health Insurance pays for injuries before auto insurance. Make sure that the customer has medical insurance before selecting this option. Regardless of the health insurance company (except Medicare or Medicaid recipients), it is acceptable to chose this option. Work loss: If you are unable to work as a result of injuries received in a motor vehicle accident, this coverage will pay up to 85% of your lost income for up to three years from the date of the accident. Up to $4,027 a month. Provided on either a Primary or Coordinated basis. Primary- Auto Insurance policy provides benefits when unable to work due to accident. Coordinated- The work loss benefits will be coordinated between benefits through employer and auto insurance. Make sure that the customer has short and long-term disability before selecting this option. Regardless of the disability insurance company (except Medicare or Medicaid recipients), it is acceptable to chose this option Waiver- A person who is 60 years of age or older and would suffer no loss of income if injured in a motor vehicle accident may waive coverage for work loss benefits and receive a slightly reduced premium. Additional Coverage Provided by PIP: Survivor’s Loss- If you are killed in a motor vehicle accident, this coverage will pay your family what they would have received from your earnings and fringe benefits for up to three years. Up to $4,027 a month. Essential Services- The policy will pay up to $20 per day for up to three years for services injured persons are no longer able to provide for themselves or their families, such as housekeeping and yard work. |
