Mandatory: PIP, also referred to as “No-Fault” Coverage, is a legal requirement in Minnesota. Regardless of who is at fault, PIP covers bodily injury to covered persons caused by an accident involving an insured private passenger motor vehicle, up to the PIP limits on your policy. This coverage pays for up to $20,000 for Medical Expenses and $20,000 for Economic Expenses (work loss, essential services, funeral expenses, and survivor’s loss), up to a combined total of $40,000. The deductible you choose is the amount of a claim you agree to pay per incident. In general choosing a higher deductible will lower your rate. PIP also covers (who): You while in another person’s vehicle. You as a pedestrian or bicyclist. Your relatives living in your home. Certain passengers who do not have their own PIP. Certain licensed drivers who drive your vehicle with your permission.
