* Permitted drivers in NM go through a two-stage process. Both would be keyed into our system as “permitted.”
- After passing the written test, a driver is granted an Instructional Permit which allows a driver to drive with an approved Driver’s Educational instructor.
- After holding the Instructional Permit for at least six months, maintaining an accident-free driving record during this time, and completing at least 50 hours of Driver’s Training, the permitted driver can be granted a Provisional License. A Provisional License allows the driver to drive as long as they are accompanied by another licensed driver.
