UM/UIM Mandatory:

●    This provides coverage for accidents occurring in the state of NY, when the other party is determined to be at-fault and they have no insurance, or not enough insurance.

●    Will also provide for Pain & Suffering

Supplementary Uninsured Motorist Optional:

●    This is an “out-of-state” extension of UM.

●    Covers UM accidents occurring outside of NY, in the United States and its territories or possessions, as well as Canada.

Personal Injury Protection Mandatory:

  • “No-Fault” coverage provided for Named Insured and Resident Relatives.
  • Also covers all New York resident Guest Passengers in an insured vehicle if they are not covered under their own auto policy.
    • Pays regardless of who was “at-fault” in the accident.
    • Covers accidents occurring in the United States, its territories and possessions, or Canada.
  • The PIP also extends to all New York resident Guest Passengers while riding in an insured vehicle which is involved in an accident in the state of New York.
  • PIP provides coverage for:
    • Medical expenses up to $50,000 per person
    • Work loss benefits – Up to $2,000 per month for lost earnings (If you select a PIP option excluding work loss benefits, this option does not apply).
    • Daily expenses up to $25 (for not more than 12 months) for all other reasonable expenses.
    • Death benefit of $2,000.
  • Can be purchased with a deductible of either $0, or $200.00.  Which applies to the insured and any relatives living with the insured.
Additional PIP Optional:

  • Raises the medical coverage provided under the Basic PIP from $50,000 to $100,000 per accident.
  • Covers accidents occurring in the United States and its territories or possessions, as well as Canada.
    • Covers NI and Resident Relatives.
    • Unlike basic PIP, extends PIP to cover all Guest Passengers for accidents occurring in the coverage territory, whether New York residents or not.
Optional Basic Economic Loss Optional:

●    Provides additional coverage for

o        Rehabilitation

o        Work Loss

●    Provides an additional $25,000 for NI and resident relatives, and passengers.

Supplemental Spousal Liability Optional:

  • This insurance covers the liability of an insured because of the death of or injury to his or her spouse for the liability insurance limits provided under the policy.
  • PIP still pays Primary for the state of NY.
    • (FYI) There is no Death Benefit paid through Supplemental Spousal Liability. Instead, the insured will have to claim the Death Benefit through the PIP.
