Personal Injury Protection Mandatory:

Basic PIP is mandatory in the state of Utah. Also known as No-Fault, this coverage applies to you, your family, and any passengers covered under your policy, regardless of who is responsible for the accident. Basic PIP will pay the following benefits, up to the limits of your policy, for losses or expenses incurred because of injuries sustained by an insured person as a result of an auto accident:

●        Medical Benefits- Up to $3,000 per person for reasonable and necessary expenses for medical, surgical, x-ray, dental, rehabilitation, including prosthetic devices, ambulance, hospital, and nursing services.

●        Lost Income Benefits- the lesser of $250 per week or 85% of any loss of gross income and loss of earning capacity per person from inability to work, for a maximum of 52 consecutive weeks after the loss.

●        Funeral Expenses- Funeral, burial, or cremation benefits up to a total of $1,500 per person.

●        Survivor Loss Benefits- Up to $3,000

Reject Loss of Income Benefits:

You also have the option to reject Loss of Income Benefits.  You will need to provide proof within 31 days of applying for coverage that neither the insured not the insured’s spouse received any earned income from regular employment, and for at least the next 180 days during the period of insurance, neither the insured nor the insured’s spouse will receive earned income from regular payment.
