UM Mandatory:

This coverage is mandatory in the state of Virginia.  It protects you, resident relatives, and occupants of a covered vehicle if any of you sustain bodily injury, including death, which results from an accident in which the owner or operator of a motor vehicle who is legally liable does not have insurance.  Hit-and-run drivers are included as uninsured motorists.

UIM Mandatory:

This is the maximum amount your insurance policy will pay in excess of the amount of Liability Bodily Injury insurance carried by an at fault motorist for bodily injury or death to you, covered family members, and/or the occupants of your insured vehicle caused by the at-fault motorist, who is legally liable but does not have enough insurance.

Medical Payments Optional:

Medical payments coverage protects anyone occupying your vehicle at the time of an accident and relatives who live with you, while in other vehicles or if struck as a pedestrian. This coverage pays for certain medical and funeral expenses from a motor vehicle accident, regardless of fault. See your policy for exclusions.

Income Loss Coverage Optional:

This optional coverage provides for income loss benefits up to $100 per week, for a maximum of one year. Income loss must be a direct result of bodily injury caused by an accident and arising out of the ownership, maintenance or use of a motor vehicle or through being struck by a motor vehicle as a pedestrian.
